Parent and Family Orientation
Parent and family involvement plays a key role in the academic success of students during their college years. For this reason, SDSU sponsors a Parent and Family Orientation that runs concurrently with student orientation.
Research shows that students who bring parents and family to orientation are more likely to earn a higher grade point average and to persist to their second year of school.
Here's why parents and family must attend:
- Contribute to the personal development and academic success of your student
- Meet faculty, staff and students and learn about academic programs and student support services
- You will become a member of the Aztec Parents Association. Your registration includes the membership for as long as your student is enrolled at SDSU
- Learn what it means to be a member of the SDSU community
- Learn about your student's academic program and campus policies and procedures
Among parents who completed a program evaluation, 96% recommended attending Parent and Family Orientation to future Aztec parents. Even if you have another student in college and/or if you are a local parent, it is important to attend Parent and Family Orientation to learn about SDSU’s programs and services and how your student can successfully graduate in a timely fashion.
All parent(s) and/or guest(s) planning to attend should be included in the student's reservation.* Space is limited for each orientation program to allow students to make connections. Do not make travel arrangements before you have made a reservation for New Student Orientation. Reservation dates will be available at a later date.
*Guests younger than 15 years of age are not encouraged to attend. All guests are required to attend the Parent and Family Orientation program. Guests will not be with the student for the majority of the day.
