Parent and Family Orientation

Make sure you’ve read through the Pre-Orientation page before moving onto this page. New Student Orientation (NSO) AND Parent and Family Orientation for spring 2024 consists of two parts (virtual and in-person)

Note: All parents/guests are encouraged to attend. If attending, it is required to register for the Parent and Family Orientation program. We encourage no more than two parents/family members per student to register for Parent and Family Orientation. Guests younger than 15 are not encouraged to attend.

Part 1 (Virtual)

Tuesday, January 9 from 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.

  • Links to Zoom will be sent out on Wednesday, January 3.
  • You must have access to an internet connection, speaker, microphone, and a webcam.
  • You will receive more information as we get closer to January 9.

Schedule

  • 8:30 am Parent and Family Welcome
  • 8:45 am Parents as Partners in Student Success
  • 10:00 am Assistant Dean College Session
  • 11:00 am SDSU Ambassador Panel

Part 2 (In-Person)

Tuesday, January 16 from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

  • If you need to make travel accommodations, special discounts can be found on the Bartell Hotels SDSU page. Bartell Hotels offers 8 unique hotels and you are encouraged to make reservations early. Ask for the “SDSU Friends and Family Rate.”

Schedule

All sessions will be on-campus.

  • 9 a.m. Check In
  • 9:30 a.m. Welcome to SDSU!
  • 10:10 a.m. Preparing an SDSU Citizen
  • 11 a.m. Money Matters
  • 11:50 a.m. Lunch & Information Fair
  • 1 p.m. Optional Campus Tours (Tours are optional. Last tour departs at 1:15pm)

What to Bring

  • Remind your student to bring:
    • Valid picture identification, like a United States Driver’s License/Real ID, United States ID card, Passport or Military ID.
  • Wear casual clothing like a light jacket, hat/sunglasses and comfortable shoes for walking around campus.
  • Optional: Bring snacks, a reusable water bottle and sunscreen.

Parking

Parking is included in your student’s orientation reservation, so no additional payment or permits are required to park inside of the designated parking structure. Parking for orientation will be inside Parking 3 only (do not park outside the structure). Parking information will be included in your orientation confirmation email. Please park in student spaces only.

Tips

  • Get a good night’s rest and eat breakfast before arriving.
  • Attend the full program
  • Remind your student to know their RedID number (9 digit number that starts with “1” or “8”)
  • Remind your student to know their SDSUid (SDSU Gmail) and password.
