Hybrid New Student Orientation Schedule

July 21 (virtual)/August 17 (in person)

This orientation is for international students, out-of-state students, and students and families with extenuating circumstances who are unable to attend in person.

There are four components to SDSU's New Student Orientation:

  • Pre-Orientation
  • New Student Orientation - July 21 (virtual)
  • New Student Orientation - August 17 (in-person)
  • First Year Experience Activities

Pre-Orientation:

Pre-Orientation Modules

(Modules will be emailed to the student's SDSUid Gmail on or after May 25)

The pre-orientation modules are intentionally created to assist your transition to college, learn about resources and services and provide a foundation for your student success at SDSU. You must complete all of the pre-orientation modules in order for you to register for classes on your orientation date. If you do not complete the pre-orientation modules before your orientation date, your class registration date will be delayed. The pre-orientation modules will cover topics such as:

  • Welcome to SDSU
  • Academics, Advising and Registration
  • Student Life
  • Student Health and Wellness
  • Financial Matters
  • Safety and Student Rights & Responsibilities

New Student Orientation 2023

First-Year Student Schedule

Virtual (July 21):

On your first of two orientation dates, you will participate in a variety of synchronous sessions via Zoom that will further support your transition to SDSU. You will receive a personalized email on Tuesday, July 18 with the Zoom links for each of your sessions. In this same email you will receive a request from your SDSU Ambassador to schedule your Advising/Course Registration 20 minute appointment. Pre-scheduled appointments will be available between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on your orientation day.

Orientation Part II - In-Person (August 17)

The third component of New Student Orientation is the in-person orientation day. The schedule for the day is as follows (subject to change).

  • Check-In for July 21 Students
    Receive name tags and backpack
  • Lunch and Information Fair
    Name tag is lunch ticket
  • Campus Tours (Optional)

First Year Experience Activities:

Once you have attended orientation and registered for fall 2023 classes, you will continue to have opportunities during your first year to get connected and make SDSU your new home. Below is a list of activities, events and initiatives that will support your success at SDSU!
